Honing the Special Skills

As theatres are still mostly shut down I have taken the opportunity to go back to working on a hobby I love and something I have listed as a special skill. This might sound a little strange having been born and raised in Arizona but I am part of a family of sailors. I grew up on my dad’s boats learning how to race. I got my own boat in high school and became very competitive. I won the High School Sailing Championship my junior year and in my senior year competed in the regular series racing with the Arizona Yacht Club. I won m fleet and raced in the Yacht Club Championship. Since being back home and having the free weekends I’ve been spending time out on the water. I’m back racing in the Fall Series for now however, most recently raced in the Ruth Beals Cup. The Ruth Beals Cup is an annual regatta that takes place honoring the Arizona Yacht Club founder. It is a women’s only race. Now with that being said it is women at the helm, there may be men as crew. This year for the Ruth Beal’s Cup I raced on the dad’s boat, a Santana 20, with my dad and brother as crew. Let’s just say, I’m pretty proud of how we place.
